Transition to the Ügyfélkapu+ System: A Guide for Entrepreneurs and Private Individuals

A detailed step-by-step guide to ensure a smooth transition

From January 2025, the Ügyfélkapu+ and the Digital Citizenship Program (DÁP) will replace the previous Ügyfélkapu service, aiming to provide citizens with an even more secure platform for managing their affairs online. Registration can be completed via the Ügyfélkapu web portal or at any government office. Below, we provide a detailed overview of the Ügyfélkapu+ system.

Key features of the new system:

1. Two-Factor Authentication: For enhanced security, two-factor authentication will be mandatory, requiring the use of an authentication app (e.g., Google Authenticator or Microsoft Authenticator). Users must enter a generated code that refreshes every 30 seconds and remains valid for up to 3 minutes.

2. Transition to Ügyfélkapu+: Existing Ügyfélkapu users can switch to Ügyfélkapu+ by scanning the QR code available in the system and activating the authentication application.

3. Deadlines: Ügyfélkapu+ is expected to remain functional independently until 2026. However, joining the Digital Citizenship Program (DÁP) is recommended to take advantage of future developments.

The introduction of Ügyfélkapu+ brings significant changes for accountants who previously managed affairs with the National Tax and Customs Administration (NAV) and other authorities using either authorizations or, in some cases, login credentials provided by clients. Thus, logging in with the entrepreneur’s personal account is still essential, making it crucial to carefully follow the provided instructions and ensure that the accountant has seamless access to the necessary information.

Below, we will provide a detailed step-by-step guide for transitioning to the Ügyfélkapu+ service:

1. Log in to your current Ügyfélkapu (Client Gate) account at https://ugyfelkapu.gov.hu

2. After entering your login credentials, the option to request Ügyfélkapu+ (Client Gate+) will appear

3. At this point, download an authentication app capable of two-factor authentication (g., Google Authenticator), then click on the ‘Proceed to the Client Gate+ service request’ button

4. In order for the accountant to continue using the entrepreneur’s personal account seamlessly, it is IMPORTANT TO SAVE THE RECEIVED QR CODE (SCREENSHOT)

5. After saving the QR code, scan it using the authentication app. Be sure to note that the app generates a new identifier every 30 seconds, which remains valid for 3 minutes. On the page, you will need to enter both this identifier and the current Ügyfélkapu/Client Gate password

6. At this point, it is necessary to SAVE THE RECEIVED DELETION CODE (SCREENSHOT) and mark it. The old Ügyfélkapu account can still be restored until January using the deletion code

7. Finally, click the Finish button.

After that, you can log in to your Ügyfélkapu+ account by entering the currently generated identification code in the authentication application.

With these steps, we have successfully upgraded our Ügyfélkapu account to Ügyfélkapu+. In addition to Ügyfélkapu+, an alternative authentication method is the Digital Citizenship Program (DÁP), which provides biometric authentication via a mobile app and offers broader digital services, such as document storage and electronic signatures. Registration for DÁP can only be completed at a government office or using an e-ID card along with the associated PIN code.
